Euro 2012 Schedule: Start Times, Live Stream and TV Info for Day 8 Action

Austin GreenJun 7, 2018

The wide-open and unpredictable Group D will play their second matches of Euro 2012 on Friday, with group leader Ukraine taking on the potent French attack, followed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sweden facing a short-handed, but feisty English side.

Tournament co-hosts Ukraine are currently sitting atop the group with three points, thanks to two beautiful headers from the immortal Andriy Shevchenko. England and France are in second and third place, respectively, after playing to a 1-1 draw, while Sweden, with zero points, is down, but certainly not out.

As always, the second wave of matches will be critical in deciding who moves on to the knockout rounds, so expect some inspired and competitive football.

The Ukrainians will be looking for more magic from 35-year-old striker Andriy Shevchenko, who buried two headers within a seven-minute span to lift the co-hosts over Sweden. It was a brilliant performance from the living legend, who proved he is still capable of dominating a match.

Of course, Shevchenko didn't do it all by himself. He got plenty of help from Andriy Voronin, Andriy Yarmolenko and Yevhen Konoplyanka, all of whom were excellent on the attack.

They will look to repeat their performance against the French, who were frustrated by the English defense in their opening match. England packed their back line, as they were content with playing an ugly, yet effective style.

Samir Nasri scored the lone goal for Les Bleus, and I'm expecting him to shine on Friday as well. He will have help from Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema up front, both of whom will be looking to improve upon their decent performances against the Three Lions.

Final Prediction: Ukraine 2 - France 2

Sweden (0 points) vs. England (1 point)

Start Time: 2:45 p.m. ET

Preview

England is still without Wayne Rooney, which is a shame considering we could have been treated to one of the finest striker duels in recent memory. With AC Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the other side, Rooney's presence surely would have made for a thrilling shootout.

Instead, the English will likely play back on their heels again, dedicating multiple men towards slowing Ibrahimovic. With their rash of injuries and lack of experience under Roy Hodgson, I can't imagine England playing an attacking style, especially with a weapon like Ibrahimovic terrorizing their back line.

England will be happy to let Sweden control most of the possession while packing the box with defenders and looking to score off counter attacks and set pieces. It won't be pretty, but I'm expecting England to earn another point on Friday.

Final Prediction: Sweden 1 - England 1
