WWE RAW Rewind: Evening of The Heel or Going Coast to Coast

Ron JohnsonFeb 9, 2009

The show goes live with the return of The Nature Boy Ric Flair. As Flair thanks everyone and tells everyone how he missed the fans, Chris Jericho comes out and stops the return a little early. Jericho continues to boast about how he is more respected than Ric Flair. Jericho demands that Flair tell them that he is better than them.

After being denied satisfaction, Jericho continues to insult and berate Flair until Naitch delivers a punch to Jericho’s mouth. As Jericho walks away, the 16-Time World Champion struts around the ring the only way he can: His Way. As RAW goes to commercial, we take a look at the events from last week involving The Legacy and The McMahons.

Divas Tag Team Match

Jillian Hall & Beth Phoenix vs. Melina & Kelly Kelly

Melina and Kelly get control over Hall to start the match. But thanks to Phoenix, Jillian gets control. Phoenix comes in and takes control until Melina gets the advantage. But thanks to Rosa, Phoenix lands the GlamSlam to pick up the win over the Women’s Champion heading into next week’s Women’s Championship Match.

Heading into break, we relive two of the greatest Wrestlemania matches of all time: Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat vs. The Macho Man Randy Savage & Andre The Giant vs. Hulk Hogan from Wrestlemania III.

In the back, JBL has put HBK in a match tonight…against Mark Henry.

Back in the ring, Randy Orton and Legacy have made their way out to the fans. Orton comes out to talk about Wrestlemania and who he’ll face at the main event. Orton continues to grandstand in front of the crowd and says that no one will stop him from becoming champion. He then focuses on tonight’s match with The Undertaker. With that, Rhodes and DiBiase head to the ring for their match with Cryme Tyme.

The Legacy vs. Cryme Tyme

Shad comes in unloading on Cody Rhodes for the ambush they delivered last week. DiBiase comes in and unloads on Shad to slow things down in their favor. The two tag in and out frequently with DiBiase doing most of the controlling. Shad blocks a kick from DiBiase and manages to tag in JTG. JTG comes in and delivers the Mugshot on Rhodes. But thanks to a distraction from Ted DiBiase, Cody hits the Crossroads to pick up the victory.

Six Man Tag Team Match (Elimination Chamber Participants)

Mike Knox, Kane & Chris Jericho vs. Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio & John Cena

Kane and Kofi start the bout with Kofi dropkicking Kane at the knees. Kingston takes control of the match, but Kane stops the momentum with a huge clothesline before tagging in Mike Knox. A miscue by Knox allows Kofi to tag in Cena.

Cena comes in and lands a set of shoulder tackles followed by the Boston Bomb and the 5 Knuckle Shuffle. But thanks to Kane, he is unable to land the Attitude Adjustment. Jericho comes in and starts to pick at the bones, but his ego allows Cena to get some shots in before dropping him with a Flapjack. Cena tries to fight back, but Kane drops him with a backbreaker. Kane tries to go for the choke slam, but Cena counters and lands the Attitude Adjustment.

Cena manages to tag in Rey Mysterio, who comes after Jericho with a series of high flying moves finished off with a face buster. Kane takes out Mysterio with a choke slam right over the top rope. Jericho counters a springboard from Kofi into the Codebreaker to pick up the win the match.

In the back, Stephanie McMahon is on the phone figuring out a backup plan in case Orton decides to make a visit to her office.

Shawn Michaels vs. Mark Henry

Before the match even begins, JBL makes his way down to the ring as Shawn and Mark prepare to lock horns. Shawn tries to get an early advantage, but Henry just tosses him to the side. But Shawn continues the pressure. As both men battle outside, Shawn grabs a steel chair and prepares to swing it until Henry grabs it. But Shawn nails Sweet Chin Music to the chair to get the DQ.

Layfield comes in the ring to again goad Shawn into a fight with him. JBL then tells Shawn to invite his wife to No Way Out. Before walking away, he tells Shawn that he’ll enjoy having his wife around the office.

WWE Intercontinental Championship Match

William Regal vs. CM Punk

Regal has complete control from the get go with a knee to the skull that continues to keep Punk dazed. Regal goes for The Parliament but Punk lands a kick to the head followed by the Go To Sleep to earn the victory and retain the IC Championship.

Back on RAW, we find out that Mickey Rourke won the Best Actor Award for “The Wrestler” and the British Academy Awards. Congrats Mickey! We are proud!

Main Event

Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker

Orton tries to exchange punches with the Deadman, but Undertaker goes on the offensive instead with some punches and a clothesline over the top rope. As Orton tries to assault Taker, he gets dropped with a top rope stunner. Orton then decides to leave the ring, but Taker gives chase and delivers a huge clothesline on the outside.

Back on RAW, Orton has applied a serious headlock on Taker after nailing the rope DDT. Orton continues the pressure with a snap slam. Orton goes for a slam, but Taker reverses it into a slam of his own. Both men exchange blows with Undertaker coming out on top with Snake Eyes and a Big Boot. Taker goes for the Chokeslam From Hell, but Orton blocks it and goes for the RKO. As Taker goes for the Tombstone, Legacy comes down and causes the DQ.

After the bell, all three men start to beat the hell out of the Deadman. As Orton prepares for the RKO, Shane McMahon comes down and gets himself some of Orton. After Shane hits the combo on DiBiase, Taker drops him with a Chokeslam. Afterwards, Shane grabs a trash can and places it on a proned DiBiase in the corner. Shane points to Orton from the top rope and lands the Coast to Coast on Orton’s lackey. Shane crawls back up and calls Orton back to the ring. Orton paces at the top of the ramp, and Shane smiles at the damage he inflicted as RAW comes to a close.
