Minnesota Vikings Fans Need to Stop Boarding The Favre Band-Wagon

Tanner ThomsFeb 9, 2009

Either Vikings fans are obsessed with getting Brett Favre, or they're just looking for something to write about.

Come on, let's be realistic here.

Don't get me wrong, I always have been a big fan of Brett Favre's. With that said, I don't believe he will be a Minnesota Viking this year. They are looking for somebody that will be able to stick around for awhile.

Brett, will be 40 years old in October. You want a 40-year-old who is prone to throwing interceptions to lead your team?

Twenty-two touchdowns is great, but 22 Interceptions to go along with it? Come on, that's absurd.

His option is to either retire, or go elsewhere. In my opinion, I believe he will hang up the cleats for good this time. With what I've been saying, it sounds like I'm all against Minnesota signing him if he is released.

I would love him to be a Viking if he can lead us to the Super Bowl in 2010.

He has expressed tremendous interest in playing with the Vikings, even before he was traded to the Jets last offseason. Unfortunately, Minnesota didn't want to trade such a high pick for a guy who was 38-years-old at the time. I had been hoping and praying for them to make some sort of move to get, well anyone.

But, they didn't do that.

I'm on the Jeff Garcia band-wagon. Can I really be the only one that is?

Jeff Garcia will be 39-years-old in two weeks. I think he can still play for two-to-three more years. In 12 starts last season, he threw for 12 touchdowns with only six interceptions. Had he started all 16 game, his projected numbers would have been 15 touchdowns with seven interceptions.

Another candidate for the Vikings starting job is Cleveland Browns back-up Derek Anderson.

Derek had a very disappointing season compared to his 2007 campaign: only nine touchdowns with eight interceptions won't cut it. His receivers didn't help any though. Cleveland was one of the worst at balls-dropped.

He was placed on I.R. on Dec. 2 after a game versus the Indianapolis Colts.

Another likely option is Matt Cassel of the New England Patriots.

In 15 starts, he had 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Many believe he will only be a one-year wonder, but I disagree with that. Detroit seems to be the likely suitor to get him, with their two first-round picks. Kansas City has also expressed great interest in trading for him.

Back to the crux of the matter.

Brett Favre wants to be a Viking—but will he be? What do you think? I want to hear your opinion on what Minnesota should do.
