Chelsea Transfer News: Is Salomon Rondon Making a Move to Stamford Bridge?

Dan TalintyreJun 3, 2018

Malaga striker Salomon Rondon could be making a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, with Chelsea keen to sign the 22-year-old as a replacement for Didier Drogba, according to the Daily Star.

The Blues have joined Arsenal in competition for the Venezuelan international, who successfully guided Malaga to a Champions League berth this season.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly preparing to offer £11 million for the striker.

Rondon, despite finishing as the club's top scorer last season, is likely to make a big-money move over the summer.

With Didier Drogba departing and Salomon Kalou likely to leave Stamford Bridge, the Blues could use some further attacking talent in their squad, especially with the midfield talent they recently acquired in Eden Hazard.

Rondon only finished with 11 goals to his name in his most recent season, but he did lead Malaga to a fourth-place finish, which is clearly the most important thing to Roman Abramovich.

Chelsea are understood to have watched Rondon in his most recent international match against Chile in a World Cup qualifier, and are expected to put together a bid in the near future—ideally before rivals Arsenal.

Should the Blues fail to acquire Hulk from Porto, Rondon would still serve as an excellent replacement for Drogba. At 22, he could be a Chelsea star for many years to come.
