Manny Pacquiao: Betting Site Refunds Money After Outrageous Decision
In a shocking piece of news, someone involved with decisions relating to the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley fight is concerned with doing the right thing, and it is a betting site.
Paddy Power is refunding all the bets made my people who took Pacquiao to win. They tweeted out the news.
"JUSTICE REFUNDS now in your accounts if you had placed a bet on Manny to win.
— paddypower (@paddypower) June 10, 2012"
"The only decent thing to do is to hand back the money to the punters who put their faith in Manny and were let down by poor reffing #justice
— paddypower (@paddypower) June 10, 2012"
While this gesture is altruistic in nature, the cynic in me knows there is a selfish inspiration behind it. Paddy Power is going to get plenty of free press from this. This will lead to increased revenue.
I know that if I was going to place a bet on a fight, or anything else for that matter, I'd be heading to the place that I just heard did something because they felt it was the right thing to do, and not because they were forced to.
Frankly, I don't care what their motivation was for this action: It is refreshing to see. The decision by the judges in this fight was appalling. Pacquiao dominated the bout, but was robbed in the decision.
This fight wasn't even close, and the Compubox numbers back that up.
It is hard to come to any conclusion on this other than there was something crooked at work, and those shady dealings would almost certainly have been done to help someone make huge amounts of money.
Meanwhile, the fans of the sport were robbed by getting an absurd joke of a result, but at least the ones that bet on Manny with Paddy's weren't robbed of their betting dollars.
