WWE No Way Out 2012: Big Show's Reign of Terror Must Continue vs. John Cena

Tim DanielsJun 3, 2018

Big Show has been on a dominant run ever since he helped John Laurinaitis beat John Cena at Over the Limit. His reign of terror needs to continue with a victory of his own against Cena at No Way Out on Sunday.

Even though Big Show's return and gimmick change were expected, it's actually been quite entertaining to see the veteran's character with mean streak again after serving as a face for so long. It's a lot more realistic and brings more to the show.

He's been taking out mid-level superstars left and right. That includes the tag team champions, Kofi Kingston and R-Truth, and Brodus Clay in an attempt to build him into an unstoppable force heading into his match against Cena.

After spending all that time to build him up, it would make no sense to have him lose all that momentum right away against Cena. The creative team already did that once with Brock Lesnar and it didn't go over well with fans.

Cena is always going to serve as one of the company's biggest stars win, lose or draw. He doesn't need a victory over Big Show to prove anything, so using him to further a storyline when another feud isn't available works out for everybody.

Despite Vince McMahon's ballyhooed appearance on Raw tonight, it doesn't appear like Laurinaitis will be taken out of power anytime soon. For his character to keep progressing, he needs an enforcer to take care of business since David Otunga is nothing more than a glorified jobber.

Big Show can fill that role to perfection, especially if he's given a huge victory over Cena to get the fans to turn against him even more. Cena's transition back into a wide-ranging fan favorite has been one of the biggest surprises since WrestleMania.

That means "The World's Largest Athlete" stands to gain a lot by beating him on Sunday. Not only will it make his character seem unbeatable, but he'll get a heel reaction that none of his average promos could ever accomplish.

The more involved the crowd gets with the Big Show and Laurinaitis alliance, the better off the entire product will be leading up to SummerSlam, when a potential shift of power could occur.

Until then, things are pretty much going to remain the same, so at least giving Big Show a monster push will add some juice to Laurinaitis' power-hungry ways instead of just having him do overly-scripted speeches all the time.

Big Show was able to knock out Cena with a single WMD at Over the Limit. A similar performance at No Way Out will give him the boost he needs to get his new gimmick over and set the stage for his first extended run of relevance in quite some time.

And since all it will take is a loss by Cena that fans will forget about anyway, it's well worth it.
