Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Superfight Will Never Happen Thanks to Pac-Man's Loss

Austin GreenJun 10, 2012

Of all the things that could potentially stand in the way of Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, I never thought a robbery would be one of them.

Money? Yep. Blood testing? Sure. Ego? Oh, hell yeah. But a robbery? I just couldn't imagine it.

Unfortunately, the unthinkable happened Saturday night in Las Vegas, as the judges stole a victory from Pac-Man and gave it to Timothy Bradley.

Despite dominating in every statistical aspect of the fight, as well as clearly landing the more staggering blows, Pacquiao was robbed when the scorecards were announced. The final tally: 115-113, 113-115, 115-113 in favor of Bradley.

It was a shocking result, and because of it, we will never get the matchup that everyone needs.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao would have annihilated pay-per-view records, provided an iconic sports moment to the world and settled the never-ending debate about which fighter is the greatest of this generation.

Pacquiao has the hit list full of legends and the best offense in boxing. Mayweather has the undefeated record (which certainly features some legends, as well) and perhaps the best defensive technique the sport has ever seen.

It would have been a match made in heaven, a clash between the sport's two biggest titans with perfectly contrasting styles. It would have been the most compelling fight of an era, and maybe, just maybe, in the history of the sport.

Instead, we will likely get Pacquiao vs. Bradley II, and maybe even III if Pacquiao crushes him again.

But no matter how entertaining those fights may be, the sad reality is that Mayweather vs. Pacquiao will never happen, and every sports fan is worse off because of it.
