Pacquiao vs. Bradley: Fans Will Be Best Served to Ignore Bogus Decision

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

So the judges seemingly had their scorecards filled out before the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley fight even began. Who cares?

There is no reason to pay any attention to the decision made by judges who were not paying any attention to the fight.

This may be the only perk to result from the loosely governed sport of boxing.

With the decision, Bradley is officially the WBO welterweight champion and still undefeated and Pacquiao's winning streak is officially over. So what?

We all know this isn't the reality of the situation, and there is no reason to concern ourselves over who is the WBO welterweight champ.

Pacquiao has clearly transcended the need for any title to give him legitimacy or hype, and Bradley can just continue to be a champion that no one is overly passionate about.

There aren't going to be a lot of fight fans rushing to proclaim that Bradley is a better fighter than Manny. There won't be a rush of people itching to see Bradley take on Floyd Mayweather now instead of Pac-Man.

And no one should be in a rush to see a rematch between these two fighters. Just because the decision was controversial, it doesn't mean the fight was close. It wasn't. There should be no more of a reason to see a rematch just because the judges blew the scoring.

Any drama regarding a Pac-Man-Desert Storm rematch is an illusion. It was brought into creation by a panel of judges that it is hard to come to any conclusion upon other than they are crooked.

Well, it is because of faulty decisions like this that it is so easy to not care what these fools say. On the whole, they have destroyed their collective credibility.

It makes every decision fair game to speculation and it makes every title just a piece of paper, or a belt that is unusually gaudy.

This is a frustrating path to watch a storied sport head down, but in a moment like this, it actually helps ease the frustration.

We all know Pacquiao won and it will be easy to go forward from here with that realization. The follies of boxing have destroyed their ability to play Big Brother and alter our memories of history.

Don't let the terrible decision fool you away from what you know: Manny Pacquiao beat Timothy Bradley on Saturday night.
