Preview
The Pittsburgh Panthers (8-2, 21-2) have two Big East losses on the season—one to Louisville and the other to Villanova. Since losing to Villanova, the Panthers have reeled off three impressive wins—a 13 point victory over Notre Dame, a 20 point win over Robert Morris, and a 23 point victory over Big East winless DePaul.
West Virginia (5-5, 16-7) currently stands in ninth in the Big East. They just snapped a two game losing streak with their 27 point victory over Providence. Their season has been full of ups and downs—from being ranked in the Top 25 to suffering a 22 point blowout handed to them by Marquette.
The first time these two teams met this season, Pitt defeated West Virginia 79-67. The Panthers will be hoping for a similar outcome and performance from their starting lineup—four of them scored in double-figures, and DeJuan Blair was good for a double-double (which he is still averaging).
If the Mountaineers want to stand a chance at home, they need to have a few more players step up this time around. Their three leading scorers all scored in double-digits, but they accounted for 49 of the Mountaineers 67 points (and the team only had six players score).
