Novak Djokovic: Why French Open Final Postponement Was Worst Thing for Djoker
The 2012 French Open final has been postponed due to inclement weather. Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will have to wait until tomorrow to finish their match and that couldn't be worse for Djoker.
Rain was the biggest factor in this final matchup thus far. The match was postponed during the second set when the sky opened up, but play was able to resume until the fourth set when once again Rafa and Djoker were halted.
Nadal is leading 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 1-2 over Djokovic with the Serb having won the previous set after falling behind two sets to none. It seemed Djoker was gaining confidence and momentum against one of the best ever to step onto a clay court.
It can't be known for sure if it was Rafa's fatigue that was getting the best of him in the third set and beyond, but it certainly wouldn't be a rare occurrence if that were the case.
Nadal's dominance early on might have exerted too much energy and Djokovic was benefiting from that. It was evident Djoker had a great chance to completely change the outlook of this match had they continued.
But Djoker won't have such an advantage when play resumes tomorrow.
Nadal will be well-rested for the culmination of the French Open Final and the 2-1 fourth set lead that looked so promising for Djokovic could vanish in an instant. We could very well see a repeat of the first two sets in this match.
Rafa is so good at Roland Garros, it's hard to imagine anything but fatigue stopping him from winning his seventh French Open. With that out of the way, thanks to Mother Nature, there is nothing in the way of Rafa and another major victory.
