San Diego Chargers: Brian Banks' Tryout Recap

Alex RamirezMay 31, 2018

A story that has caught the eyes of many arrived in San Diego today.

Brian Banks, a 25 year old that was just exonerated after being wrongfully accused of kidnapping and rape at the age of 17, had a workout with the San Diego Chargers earlier this afternoon. Before his arrest, Banks was considered a top prospect in the nation at linebacker, being heavily recruited by the University of Southern California.

After being in prison for five years, Brian Banks is now a free man. Like before the accusations, his dreams have not changed. Banks still wants an opportunity to play in the NFL.

He received a tryout from the Seahawks earlier this week, allowing him to come back for mini camp. The Chargers also jumped aboard and invited him out to San Diego to see what he brings to the table.

Norv Turner watched Brian Banks very closely this afternoon. After just being released from prison, Banks ran a 4.7 40 yard dash. Turner said of the run:

"

"Banks showed outstanding athleticism."

"

He understood exactly why he was a top prospect out of high school. It's tough for a guy to just jump right back into a sport, especially such a physical one like football, but Banks obviously has tremendous courage and is ready to capture his dream.

The answer is nothing.

While Turner was highly impressed with Brian Banks, he will not be asked to come back for another try-out in San Diego and will not be signed to a contract.

Norv Turner says the Chargers have not invited Brian Banks back, but could see him on an NFL roster.

"

"I certainly would not bet against him."

"

The Chargers have their linebackers set.
