I'll Have Another's Injury Press Conference: Live Stream and TV Info

Alex KayJun 8, 2012

I’ll Have Another has reportedly been scratched from the 2012 Belmont Stakes. There will be no Triple Crown winner this year after the horse allegedly suffered a torn tendon on Friday morning. Trainer Doug O’Neill confirmed this devastating rumor on the Dan Patrick Show earlier.

Dan Wolken of The Daily is reporting that the New York Race Association will be holding a 1 p.m. press conference with O’Neill and the sad news should be officially announced at that time.

Doug O'Neill's press conference regarding I'll Have Another's Injury will bee live streamed by NBC Sports at 1 p.m. ET, as well as shown on NBC Sports Network.

I’ll Have Another was making a bid to become the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the Triple Crown. According to the official race website, the colt was the morning line favorite, going off at 4-5 before the injury.

It seems that misfortune has been keen as of late on striking winners of both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Big Brown notably suffered a crack in his hoof before the Belmont and ended up finishing last back in 2008.

One possible reasoning for the injuries could be the intense amount of training in a short period of time.

I’ll Have Another was getting set for his third major race in just five weeks and it may have been too much stress on the 3-year-old’s body. Optimizer is the only other horse in the Belmont field that competed at both Churchill Downs and Pimlico in the same time frame.

We will hopefully have answers soon as trainer Doug O’Neill gets set to tell the world about I’ll Have Another’s heartbreaking injury.
