Thoughts on Feud Between Matt and Jeff Hardy, Edge and Christian, and History

Kevin ManningFeb 8, 2009

First and foremost, I want to just say that this is my prediction based on observations and based the feud between Matt and Jeff Hardy along with their history in the WWE.

I know many fans are probably upset with the turn by Matt Hardy when he attacked Jeff at the Royal Rumble. I, however, am pleased because this is how we were pleasantly introduced to Hardy 2.0, Mattitude, and the chance to be an "M'Fer" like Shannon Moore and Crash Holly.

This turn also gave fans another hand sign for the Hardy's (besides the "guns") when someone places their their thumb over their ring finger to represent V-1.

The first time Matt turned heal, Matt was a successful comical heel; he went on to win the Cruiserweight Championship and successfully defended the title against Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania 19 in Seattle, Washington. During this turn, Matt was able to beat the Undertaker on a couple of occasions (partly due to Brock Lesnar's interference).

I bring up this history because of the title Matt won: the Cruiserweight Championship. I will come back to this in a moment, but first I want to discuss the current angle.

Many would want to say Matt is the one who has been attacking Jeff. First of all, Jeff would know if the car that sideswiped him was Matt's or not, so we would have to assume that Matt is not the culprit in this, the pyro. malfunction, and the Boston Stairwell incident. Jeff was attacked by someone else and it was not Edge.

It was Christian. This means Christian and Matt are working together. This makes sense to me because of Jeff and Christian's feud way back with the Brood when Christian was the Light Heavyweight Champion and Jeff won the title from him. This is a longer feud than Edge and Christian vs the Hardy Boyz.

Edge is not involved in this whole incident because he and Matt play like they hate each other, with good reason. No, Edge is just going to be the collateral in all this; that's right, a 7-time Heavyweight Champion kind of collateral. The con-chair-to at the Royal Rumble was the key identifier here.

This leads to Wrestlemania 25—the biggest Wrestlemania so far. This par-per-view needs something that can create a strong stir and what better way than to have a surprising turn (if he returns before 'Mania) or return of 1/6 of the men who helped revolutionized the industry (the Dudley Boyz the other group besides the four mentioned in this article).

Christian will side with Matt at Wrestlemania 25 because he will be jealous of Jeff Hardy, and he will not be with Edge because of Edge's success as well.

Out of these four wrestlers, Christian is the only one who has not won a Heavyweight title (I personally count the 2 NWA Championship from TNA because the title is included in Ric Flair's 16 championships).

Christian and Matt will be going for the title together in a respected partnership similar to Rated-RKO and will be major players. Christian left the WWE because Vince did not think he could be a main-eventer, and Vince has now has changed his mind about that opinion just like he did with the Wrestler.

Edge or Jeff will win the title at No Way Out in Seattle. If Edge wins, then he will face Big Show or Triple H; either way, I am not really interested because Triple H has been involved in the main event at Wrestlemania since 1999 (except losing to the Undertaker in a mid-card match).

Big Show seems to be the more likely choice since this can be worked in a way to turn Show or Edge face depending on who Vickie sides with. My hope is Edge to become a face/heel who sides with only one person, Edge.

If Jeff wins, it will be either Matt vs Jeff for the title or a triple threat for the title with Edge involved. This is where I believe Christian will help Matt win the match, for the title or not, in a triple threat or not.

We will see a con-chair-to for Jeff and/or Edge. Wrestlemania will have a memorable moment outside of the Orton/Legacy moment we are going to see with either Stephanie or Vince favoring the group (another time for this issue).

I personally want Jeff to win the Chamber at No Way Out. I have always liked the Hardy's and I remember them being jobbers back around the time after 'Mania 13.

I remember Edge when he came to the ring from the crowd and that he injured Jose Estrada, Jr. (had to fact check this one) from Los Boricuas. I remembered hearing of a great dark match between Edge and some guy named Christian—I am glad the WWE had this included in the Decade of Decadence set as an extra feature.

This will lead to Matt, Jeff, Christian, and Edge competing for the WWE Heavyweight Title afterwards—this leads to Matt Hardy and Christian vs Edge and Jeff Hardy—brothers teaming up to faces their "brothers".

This means great matches, as long as the "PG" rating business is pushed to the side—I personally hope so since the average viewer of WWE programing is 25+ and the majority of parents do not like their children watching violence of any kind.

This can lead to a great year for the WWE with the proper programing and booking, but that is if the WWE is ready to move away from superstars like Triple H or the Undertaker in the main events.

I am hoping to enjoy the outcome of this situation and am looking forward to the new year (wrestling years seem to start on the first Raw after Wrestlemania).

Side Note

Matt Hardy needs only the WWE Heavyweight Title, Intercontinental T title, and the World Heavyweight Title to be the only wrestler to have won every title possible in the WWE. He would be the first and only Super Grandslam Champion, and turning him heel while moving him back to Smackdown was the first step.

Jeff is closest next to him (cannot win the Cruiserweight, but needs ECW, US, WWE Tag Title, and World Title—Edge never fit the weight class for cruiserweights and never won the European title).

Matt's titles

ECW Champ.

World Tag Champ. w/Jeff

WWE Tag Champ. w/MVP

WCW Tag Champ. w/Jeff

US Champ.

Cruiserweight Champ. (combined with the Light Heavyweight Champ.)

European Champ.

Hardcore Champ.
