French Open 2012 TV Schedule: Djokovic vs. Federer Will Be Most Exciting Match
Competition at the 2012 French Open is winding down and the most exciting matchup left is the Men’s semifinal between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
The match will be broadcast at 11 a.m. ET on NBC. The full TV schedule for the remaining matches can be found here, courtesy of the United States Tennis Association website.
Djokovic is the tournament’s top seed and Federer is seeded No. 3. This will be a rematch of the semifinal at the 2011 French Open.
In that match, Federer took down Djokovic in four sets with scores of 7-6 (5), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5). Djokovic came into the match on 43-game win streak, but Federer had not dropped a set in the entire tournament up until that point.
When the two players met, it was an epic showdown between two players at the top of their game. Now, they are not quite as hot as they were in 2011, but this will still be a clash of tennis Titans.
Federer struggled in his quarterfinal matchup against Juan Martin del Potro. The Argentine took the first two sets from the Swiss, but Federer showed his poise and class by storming back and winning in five sets.
Djokovic also struggled, but showed resiliency in his quarterfinal match. He was on the brink of defeat against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the fourth set, but survived and went on to crush the Frenchman in the final stanza.
The Serb was pushed to a fifth set in his fourth-round match as well and both him and Federer will be feeling the fatigue during their match.
The 2011 semifinal was between two players who were on fire. This time around, the player that shows the most grit and toughness will win.
Both players are incredible athletes and world-class competitors, and if this turns into a battle over which player is more resilient, it will be extremely captivating.
Federer will be fighting to prove that he is still capable of winning a Grand Slam at 30 years old. His last win at a major was the 2010 Australian Open.
Djokovic on the other hand, is looking to make history with by winning his fourth consecutive Slam.
In the end, Djokovic will prevail. His only loss to Federer in the past six meetings was the 2011 French Open semifinal. He is younger and that will make a big difference given the amount of effort each has had to spend to get to this stage in the tournament.
Even though Djokovic will prevail, the true winners will be the spectators as these two tennis greats will put on the best match played at Roland Garros this year.
