French Open 2012 Results: Novak Djokovic Will Get Revenge on Roger Federer

Ryan RudnanskyJun 8, 2012

Here we are again.

Another French Open, another semifinals matchup between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

Of course, Federer ended Djokovic's spectacular winning streak last year at Roland Garros, capturing the match in four sets. He then went on to win 15 straight matches to end 2011.

Well, the ageless wonder is at it again. Federer is 31-4 this year with four singles titles, including a title at the Madrid Open.

But no so fast.

While Djokovic hasn't played as well as last year, he's showing signs of getting back into the groove (I know, 30-5 with two singles titles isn't exactly horrible, but he's not as unstoppable as he was for most of last year).

Djokovic was one point away from being eliminated in the quarterfinals against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. But it's what he did while on the brink that should have Federer worried.

Djokovic dug deep and went on to win that pivotal fourth set against Tsonga, then beat him convincingly in the fifth set, 6-1. He displayed the baseline shots and volleys that he's been known for since last year.

This is what great players do. They completely deflate you when you have a glimmer of hope against them. Djokovic's comeback against Tsonga resembled his play of last year, when he would constantly battle for victories, displaying the mentality and fitness of a great.

Federer, of course, had his own comeback against Juan Martin del Potro in the quarterfinals. He battled from two sets down to capture the final three sets in dramatic fashion.

Djokovic played a better opponent in Tsonga, though, and he has to be feeling like he did last year after his tremendous, hard-fought display in the quarterfinals.

I like Djokovic exacting revenge of Federer, and going on to hit his stride.
