Summer Transfer News: Hammers Going After Grant Holt, Former Bolton Keeper

Joe TanseyJun 6, 2012

After securing promotion back in Premier League, West Ham United are now in the process of improving their roster for the 2012-13 Premier League campaign.

Manager Sam Allardyce already has his eye on some potential signings for the club.

The first move that Allardyce will most likely make is for a new first choice goalkeeper.

According to Goal.com, goalkeeper Robert Green is set to leave the club on a free transfer.

The man who will replace the former England keeper is a man that Allardyce knows from his coaching days at Bolton.

According to The Guardian, Jussi Jaaskelainen will come over to Upton Park from Bolton.

Another move that Allardyce is keen to make is for a striker to accompany Carlton Cole up front.

Cole was the leading scorer for the club in the Championship last season with 15 goals.

The Hammers did sign Ricardo Vaz Te in January as a second option up front, but he has not played in the top flight since his time at Bolton over six years ago.

Big Sam wants to bring in an experienced striker, and the possible answer to that is Grant Holt.

According to The Sun, Grant Holt handed a transfer request to Norwich City and is being sought after by numerous clubs, including Aston Villa, where former Norwich manager Paul Lambert was just hired.

The 31-year-old scored 15 Premier League goals for the Canaries last season and could be the second striker that the Hammers are looking for.

Even if both of these players are signed, they will not be the last players coming into Upton Park, as Allardyce looks to bolster his squad and keep the Hammers up in the top flight.
