Chris Bosh Injury: Troubled Miami Heat Need Wounded Star to Add Firepower

Ryan RudnanskyJun 6, 2012

The Miami Heat should have been able to defeat the Boston Celtics in Game 5, even with Chris Bosh playing limited minutes.

They didn't, and now are in danger of failing to win a championship with the Big Three for the second season in a row.

Bosh, coming off an abdominal strain, played just 14 minutes in Game 5. He still posted nine points and seven rebounds.

According to ESPN, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said on Wednesday that Bosh may start Game 6. Even if he doesn't, he will log more minutes than in Game 5.

Boy, do the Heat need it.

After taking a 2-0 series lead, the Heat have looked disjointed in the past three games. They're now one loss away from a disappointing finish to the season.

While LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have generally played well, no one else is consistently stepping up for the Heat.

It doesn't help that the Heat have crumbled as a team later in these losses, in what can only be described as a combination between poor play-calling and poor execution.

The Heat honestly have the means to defeat the Celtics without Bosh, but they simply aren't playing well enough as a team.

They are in need of a spark.

Bosh, who has been overshadowed by James and Wade since arriving in Miami, averaged 18.0 points and 7.9 rebounds this season.

Only now, when he's been out or limited, has his impact on the team been fully realized.

The Heat not only need him to win the title, they need him to beat the Celtics.

How ironic—the man who has seen his fair share of barbs and jokes could be the man who holds the Heat's championship aspirations in his hands.

Bosh is needed more than ever right now, and his play moving forward will likely determine the Heat's fate.
