USC Football: Analyzing 5-Star Recruit Su'a Cravens and His Verbal to Trojans

Michael FelderJun 6, 2012

It has been almost a month since the Trojans snatched up Justin Davis and Ty Isaac in the same week. With June here, it seems only natural that Lane Kiffin add another big name to the 2013 recruiting cycle. Su'a Cravens, one of the nation's top prospects, announced his commitment to the Trojans today and is another monumental acquisition for USC.

Cravens comes right on time for the Trojans and he fits into the big-time safety mold that guys like TJ McDonald and Taylor Mays have helped build over the last few seasons at the Coliseum. That, of course, is if he plays safety when he gets to USC. We gave Cravens the Full Ride treatment because he is one heck of a ball player.

At wide receiver, Cravens could be a valuable asset to Lane Kiffin's pro-styled attack. He is a big, physical player that attacks the football, and with Robert Woods pulling up on his junior year, adding another receiving threat wouldn't hurt the Trojans. Cravens has the ability to play opposite Marqize Lee should Woods take off for the NFL in 2013.

That said, safety has got to be a fit for Su'a Cravens if you are the University of Southern California. TJ McDonald, the Trojans' senior safety, could leave for the pros next year, and getting Cravens in to compete for the safety job is key heading into 2013.

Cravens has got some true depth to his game. He's not just a physical specimen; the kid has solid range and an understanding of how to play in the back end.

We're a long way from February, but Lane Kiffin is going to keep working on the recruiting trail. Where the Trojans' class ends up should be solid if their start is any indication.
