SEC Football Recruiting: Conference Wisely Gets on Board with Off-Campus Hosting

Michael FelderJun 6, 2018

Texas A&M is just stepping into the league, but the Aggies have made their first big move with respect to the complexion of the league. Teaming up with Arkansas, as reported by Arkansas Sports 360, the folks in College Station have co-sponsored a rule change that would allow for SEC teams to host recruits during games at neutral sites.

For Arkansas, it is about hosting recruits at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock and, of course, their annual contest against the Aggies in Dallas. However, the Hogs and Aggies are not the only teams that have the chance to benefit from this move.

Although the Atlanta Journal-Constitution tells us that Florida and Georgia will not be using the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party to bring recruits in, there are still more avenues to take advantage of this rule change, most notably the Chick-fil-A kickoff games.

Everyone from the westernmost SEC West teams to the entire SEC East recruits the Atlanta area hard. With the Chick-fil-A kickoff game now fair game to the home SEC team for hosting, expect tickets to be kicked out to the kids within driving distance of the Georgia Dome.

Get the kids into see a big-time game, in a big-time atmosphere, to see what your team is all about.

Due to the unlimited nature of unofficial visits, the kids have ample time through the season to get to campus. However, getting these guys into the Dome for the big showdown has a shot to make a lasting impression.

The same goes with Dallas, as the SEC has found a second big game home in another spotlight contest setup by ESPN. If you're the home team and you're pushing to recruit in Texas, showing off in Jerry's World for the Texas recruits is most certainly a way to get your foot in the door.

While Arkansas and Texas A&M are going to benefit from their regularly-scheduled neutral site games, there is an area of opportunity for several SEC teams. Good move for the conference, and props to the newcomers partnering with Arkansas to help push this measure through.
