Sites Every Detroit Lions Fan Simply Must Bookmark

Andrew GardaJun 7, 2018

We continue on our tour through the NFC North blogosphere, talking some great Detroit Lions sites, both mainstream and fan-centered.

Of course, you can always get what you need here at Bleacher Report, but sometimes it's good to get out and see the world.

So here are some of the sites I frequent on a regular basis—some for news, some for analysis, some for humor.

TOP NEWS

Colts Jaguars Football
Rams Seahawks Football
Mississippi Football

I'm sure I missed someone's favorite site, so feel free to add them in down in the comments.

Holy Schwartz!

I love game film, and I love breaking it down. Truly, if someone at NFL Films would pay me to do nothing but that, I might take them up on the offer.

Apparently I've found someone as obsessed—perhaps more—than I, in Nate Washuta. A guy who is getting his PHD in Mechanical Engineering, Nate in his own words is "studying to professionally become a nerd, it means that OF COURSE I like statistics."

So there's a lot of stats. There is also a ton of film work and discussion. I only recently found this site and can't wait to get the full experience this fall.

If you were a Lions fan in the Wayne Fontes Era (I call it the Dark Days of Suck), then you will instantly get what this site is about: loving the Lions in a sarcastic, possibly self-harming, way.

Al Breaton and Greg Eno love their Lions but are far from afraid to call them out. It's a great place for getting some off-beat analysis and always an enjoyable read—unlike the Wayne Fontes Era which never did anyone any good.

SBNation's Lions blog, run by Sean Yuille, is a solid site, dedicated to keeping you abreast of everything going on with the Lions—good and bad. Not as bent as yesterday's SB entry, the Daily Norseman, Sean gives it to you straight, and there are also multiple contributors to add a little extra flavor to the joint.

It's very straightforward most of the time and a solid place to stop by every day and make sure you've got what you need in terms of info.

Launched after the infamous 'defeated season' by fellow B/R scribe and Twitter sparring partner Ty Schalter, the site is dedicated to pretty much whatever hops into Ty's head that's Lions related. Whether it's a post on Cliff Avril's worth with colorful Pro Football Focus charts or a look at the new rookies, Ty always injects a healthy dose of optimism and passion into every one.

The folks over at the News give you a solid nuts-and-bolts take on the news—keeping you up to date without a ton of editorializing, though they will do that on occasion as well. The paper has a very good group of writers who know both the game and their own trade very well.

Anwar Richardson and Justin Rogers are another source of good insight and timely takes on all things Lions. I don't love the site overall—the layout seems clunky to me, and it can be hard to find some things—but Richardson and Rodgers are top-notch.

David Birkett is a great read every time out, and there are several other writers who step in and bring a good deal of insight into the team news. Birkett is the biggest draw for me, though—I like both his analytical and larger view takes.

The Free Press and Birkett are pretty much my first Lions stop in the morning.

Like all team pages, the Lions' is a decent place for news, and Tim Twentyman does a good job giving his honest thoughts on the team while working for the team.

Player interviews, direct reports from camp and the locker room—anything Lions related you can find here.
