French Open 2012: Roger Federer's Last Hope for Another Grand Slam Is Wimbledon

Nicholas GossJun 4, 2018

Even after his stunning comeback in the quarterfinals to defeat Juan Martin del Potro on Tuesday, Roger Federer's best chance to win his 17th Grand Slam singles title will be at Wimbledon in July.

Federer looked great in the final three sets against Del Potro, but if he falls behind by two sets against Novak Djokovic in the semifinals or Rafael Nadal in the final, he won't be so lucky.

On the grass courts of Wimbledon, Federer will once again be one of the top contenders to win the title, but it may be the last time he has this opportunity at the prestigious tournament.

Djokovic has proven time and time again over the last year that he's the best player on the planet, and he is capable of beating Federer on just about any surface.

Rafael Nadal might not be in the prime of his career, but he's still a huge threat to Federer's chances of winning another Grand Slam.

Federer has won at Wimbledon six times, including five consecutive victories from 2003 through 2007. His last triumph in London was in 2009, however, and Federer has been far less dominant at the tournament since then.

In a place where he's comfortable and has won numerous times before, Wimbledon gives Federer the best chance to win his first major since the 2010 Australian Open.

If he fails to win at this year's tournament, the chances of the Swiss star winning another Grand Slam singles title before his career ends are pretty slim.

Federer has had a good run at the French Open thus far, but it will end against Djokovic.
