French Open 2012 Results: Roger Federer's Lackluster Win Spells Doom for Tourney
Roger Federer has moved into the semis of the 2012 French Open, but he did so in an uninspiring fashion. Federer is running on fumes at this point of the tourney. It is just a matter of time until he is eliminated.
Fed quickly fell two sets behind Juan Martin Del Potro in their match on Tuesday before battling back and winning, 3-6, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-0, 6-3.
While this strong finish is impressive, it loses some luster as you dig a little deeper. After the second set, Del Potro's knee, which was heavily bandaged, began to cause him problems. This gave Federer an opening and he built on his confidence to dominate him.
Federer needed that because he was cruising to defeat. He was in terrible form early—off with his serve and unpredictable on his ground strokes. Fed's struggles shouldn't be too surprising. After all, he is already at a spot in this tournament that his age suggests he never should have advanced to.
The Twitter account named Roger Federer, which really isn't Roger Federer, tweeted:
"Roger Federer is now the oldest French Open semi-finalists in 27 years, and now shares the record for most Grand Slam semi-finals ever (31).

Federer's ability to make it this far is a testament to his greatness, but he is clearly not in the form he would need to be in to win the French Open.
Up next for Fed is Novak Djokovic. Djokovic has not been in his top form either, and a victory over Federer should not be assumed.
However, if Federer does beat him, he will likely face his French Open Kryptonite in Rafael Nadal. Nadal is playing as good as ever, which spells doom for Federer, who can't beat Nadal on this surface even on his best day.
