Euro 2012 Odds: Germany, Spain and More Semifinal Locks

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Pencil in Germany as one of the four teams that will reach the semifinal of Euro 2012 this year in Poland and Ukraine.

The Germans are one of the strongest sides in the tournament, and will certainly advanced to the knockout stage despite being in a group with the Netherlands and Portugal.

Let's look at three teams sure to be locks for the semifinal.

Spain, Group C

Spain has a pretty easy group with Italy as their only real test. The Italians are getting stronger but they are not one of the top teams in this tournament.

Ireland and Croatia are the other opponents in Spain's group, and neither has the attacking quality or defensive strength to stop Spain from having success.

Expect Spain to dominate their group and advance to the semifinal round for the second straight European championships.

England, Group D

Outside of France, England has a relatively easy group with Sweden and hosts Ukraine in Group B.

Even with a loss to France in the opening match, the Three Lions could still make the knockout stage and progress to at least the semifinal.

If England defends well, then they will be in great shape throughout the tournament. The goalkeeping will be solid, and when Wayne Rooney returns from suspension, they will have a strong attack that will be quite difficult to contain.

England will be one of the most dangerous teams at Euro 2012, and will make the semifinal.

Germany, Group B

Germany has advanced to at least the semifinal in four of the last five World Cup/European championship competitions.

They have experience and lots of quality at nearly every position. The only way that Germany fails to make the semifinals at Euro 2012 is if they beat themselves with unusual mistakes and mental errors.

The chances of that happening are remarkably slim, however. Expect Germany's strong defense to carry them to another semifinal.
