Softball World Series 2012: Start Time, Predictions and More for Game 2
Oklahoma moved within one win of a national championship by defeating Alabama in Game 1 of the Softball World Series. The Sooners scored four unanswered runs after the Crimson Tide took the lead to take control of the series.
Alabama will now need to win two straight games to win the title, but the second-seeded Tide are certainly capable of pulling it off, so don't count them out yet. Both teams have already won more than 50 games with just eight losses, making it an even matchup.
Let's take a look at all the key information for tonight's Game 2, including some players to watch and a prediction for which team will emerge victorious.
Where: ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla.
When: Tuesday, June 5 at 8 p.m. ET
Watch: ESPN2
Live Stream: ESPN3.com
Players to Watch
Oklahoma: Jessica Shults
Shults powered the Sooners to victory in the opener with two key runs batted in. It shouldn't be a surprise since she's been one of the team's more reliable hitters all season. She has hit 19 home runs to go along with a high on-base percentage.
The Crimson Tide will likely pitch more cautiously in the second game, so Shults has to remain patient and avoid chasing pitches. She's also the team's catcher, meaning calling a good game will be just as important as her performance at the plate.
Prediction: 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored
Alabama: Jennifer Fenton
Even though Fenton lived up to her usual high standards in Game 1 with two hits, her teammates weren't able to generate enough offense. She's nearly hitting .400 for the season with 21 extra-base hits and 43 stolen bases.
Fenton must lead the way for Alabama to start a comeback. The senior needs to use her speed to wreak havoc on the bases, helping to manufacture a couple of runs. Look for her to do exactly that to help the Crimson Tide force a deciding Game 3.
Prediction: 2-for-3 with one walk and two runs scored
