Rafael Nadal Dominates Juan Monaco to Advance at 2012 French Open
Rafael Nadal is having yet another dominant season, and it continued on Monday against Juan Monaco in the French Open as he advanced to the quarterfinals.
Nadal has simply been spectacular so far in the French Open. His 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 victory over Monaco on Monday was nothing new. Nadal has beaten each of his opponents in straight sets this year in Roland Garros, and he's making it look easy.
It's not exactly surprising, either. Nadal has, after all, won five of the last six French Opens. "The King of Clay" tends to like Roland Garros.
Nadal has three singles titles for the year, with only four losses. He's beaten Novak Djokovic in the final at the Rome Masters and in Monte Carlo. He wants that No. 1 world ranking, and if he keeps playing like this it won't be long before he snatches it away from Djokovic.
This was supposed to be the year Djokovic separated himself from Nadal and Roger Federer for good after last year's spectacular run, but Nadal isn't ready to cede his dominance.
It's shaping up to be yet another riveting season of tennis. Nadal continues to remind us how good he really is, and it's almost a shock these days when he loses a set at the French Open. He's been that good.
Djokovic may own the No. 1 world ranking, but Nadal reigns supreme time and time again at the French Open. This is Nadal's tournament. It always has been. And everyone knows that, including Nadal.
