College Football Recruiting 2013: The Winners and Losers of May

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

Wow, so we're in the first full week of June, and this 2012 cycle is really moving along, folks. May surged by, and we saw a lot happen on college football's recruiting trail.

In fact, we saw so much happen that we should look in our rear-view mirrors one last time. Just for entertainment purposes, I'm going to recap in a winners and losers manner.

Let's get started.

Loser: Kentucky

1 of 8

The Wildcats go down as a loser this month due to their two biggest recruiting targets not showing them any love.

Per Scout.com, elite WR prospect James Quick has low interest at best in UK and is looking hard at signing with arch-rival Louisville.

Scout.com also reports that DE Jason Hatcher has Louisville in his top five.

Winner: Miami (Fla.)

Anytime you get a QB to commit is a huge deal.

Yet, when you get a QB prospect like Kevin Olsen to pledge, it's a win-win.

Miami got a commitment from the stud New Jersey QB in May, and he easily gives the 'Canes a QB of the future.

Loser: Texas

Usually if you're a great player from the Lone Star State, you go to Texas.

Well, Dontre Wilson doesn't feel that way, as he decided to commit to playing out of state.

Which leads us to...

Winner: Oregon

Can you imagine a future of the duo of Thomas Tyner and Dontre Wilson? Chip Kelly can, because that's what he'll have at his disposal at Oregon.

Wilson pledged to the Ducks in May and gives Oregon another offensive player with excellent speed.

Loser: Georgia

The Bulldogs got a pledge from huge RB Derrick Henry last year and thought he was all sewn up and ready to come to Athens in 2013.

They were wrong.

Henry, per Scout.com, sounds like a player who is really thinking about jumping ship and committing to Alabama right now. In fact, based on what he told Scout.com in May, there's an extreme possibility that he ends up at Alabama and not Georgia.

Winner: USC

The Trojans had a great month in recruiting, and it was capped by commitments from two of the top RB prospects in the nation.

Ty Isaac surprised most of us by picking the Trojans over Michigan, and then Justin Davis made it official some days later with USC.

RB is a position of need for the Trojans this cycle, and getting two of the top runners in the country is a huge coup.

Winner: Alabama

You have to hand it to the Tide, who landed QB Cooper Bateman in May. Bateman is an outstanding prospect with one of the best arms in the country.

Alabama may have a future star at QB for a change in Bateman, and that has to excite the entire Crimson Tide program and its fanbase.

Loser: All of Us

All of us as recruiting fans go down as losers in May. We were on the edge of our seats hoping to finally hear where the nation's No. 1 overall player would be committing.

Nope.

Robert Nkemdiche failed to make an announcement, and his recruitment likely will continue all the way until signing day. So, we have to wait eight more months.

Losers. All of us. In May at least.
