French Open 2012: Rafael Nadal Will Continue to Coast Through Tournament
If you were to Google Rafael Nadal's name, it shows you a picture of the tennis sensation looking a bit bored at a podium on the right-hand side of your screen.
Expect that kind of expression from the Spaniard as he continues to coast his way to a record-breaking seventh French Open title.
Nadal has yet to be challenged through three rounds at Roland Garros, defeating each of his opponents in three sets.
The No. 2 ranked player in the world advanced to the round of 16 in Paris when he defeated Eduardo Schwank on Saturday, just in time to enjoy his birthday on June 3.
However, the 26-year-old doesn't seem to be interested in any potential distractions during the tournament. He told the media (via ESPN):
"I'd like to focus for the round of 16, and I'll practice, as usual. I will have my treatment, as usual. [If] something has been prepared for me, a cake or a very quick celebration ... If this is the case, I'll be very happy.
"
Nadal continues to march towards an astounding seventh French Open title and it doesn't appear the field can stop that from happening.
He is the unquestioned king of clay on the tour, with a remarkable 247-19 record on the surface in his career.
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are still around in this tournament, and as fellow Bleacher Report Featured Columnist Brian Mazique put it, "If anyone has a chance to even get Nadal's attention, it'll be Federer or Djokovic."
The clay of Roland Garros is how Nadal first emerged as a major player on the men's tour, defeating all comers on the court that has been so kind to him over the years.
Djokovic looked shaky in his victory over Italian Andreas Seppi yesterday, while Federer was put to the test by youngster David Goffin before advancing to the quarterfinals. They were taken to five and four sets respectively in their fourth-round matches.
Nadal has proven over his career on clay that he's near unbeatable, and the way he is effortlessly putting away opponents so far means that he will become the career holder for most French Open championships soon enough.
