Novak Djokovic Escapes French Open 2012 Scare vs. Andreas Seppi

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Despite dropping the first two sets of the match, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic is still alive at the 2012 French Open after completing an amazing comeback to defeat Andreas Seppi of Italy on Sunday (4-6, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-5, 6-3) in the fourth round.

Djokovic will play the winner of the fourth-round match between Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarterfinals.

It wasn't an unfamiliar scenario for Djokovic, who has come back to win in a Grand Slam match twice before after falling behind two sets to love.

After defeating Federer at the US Open in August, Djokovic went on to defeat Rafael Nadal in the final, and he may do the same at Roland Garros this year.

The two stars have met in three straight Grand Slam finals, and they are likely headed for a fourth straight meeting. For this to happen, Djokovic will likely have to defeat Federer in another semifinal battle.

The match against Seppi was the first time at this year's French Open that Djokovic didn't win in straight sets. It will certainly take him a little bit to recover both physically and mentally from this kind of match. However, these are the kinds of matches where players find the confidence needed to fight through adversity and win the tournament.

Expect Djokovic to use Sunday's victory as motivation going forward as he tries to win his first career French Open title.
