I’d say the funniest thing in hockey these days is the Sean Avery Saga: He’s in Vogue, he’s out of vogue, there’s a new rule named after him...

In fact, I’d say that for me the top 10 funniest moments in hockey have all involved Sean Avery!

1. It all started back in 1999 when Avery won a walk-on job with the Detroit Red Wings in 1999, when they had Yzerman, Hull, Chelios, Larionov, Kozlov, Kocur, Murphy, and many more stars,  after being overlooked by the NHL Entry draft in 1998.

Imagine an undrafted OHL player going from the smallest OHL city and the Owen Sound Platers to the Stanley Cup winning Detroit Red Wings! That’s a riot!

2. When Avery arrived in the Red Wings dressing room, he announced, “The A-Dog is here!” The team was loaded with superstars. They laughed and called him “The Puppy.”

3. Avery got traded to L.A. and goes from the puck bunnies of Northern Ontario to dating the beautiful actress Elisha Cuthbert, who plays Jack Bauer's daughter on 24. Also, he become the most penalized player of the year—for two years in a row. He is the Jack Bauer of the NHL!

4. Avery gets traded from L.A. to NYC and becomes the spark plug for the New York Rangers. They become that is fun to watch. And they start winning. Avery dates Playboy and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Rachel Hunter.

5. In the playoffs, the Rangers play their rivals, the New Jersey Devils, famous for the neutral trap, defensive hockey, and the most boring games on TV. In a game against the Devils, Avery waves his hands and stick in front of Devil's goaltender Martin Brodeur, to screen him and distract him. Then Avery scores on Brodeur.

6. The following day, the NHL made what Avery did to Brodeur illegal. And they called the rule: "The Sean Avery Rule". Avery is immortalized by the NHL.

7.  Don Cherry called Avery a jerk. The NHL does a poll and the players name Avery the most hated hockey player in the league. People magazine does a poll and called him one of The Sexiest Man Alive.

8. After the Rangers eliminated the Devils, Brodeur snubs Avery in the handshake line. Avery says, "Fatso forgot to shake my hand." Brodeur calls Avery "the Vogue intern."

9. Vogue magazine announces that Avery will spend the summer working as an intern at the fashion magazine. He becomes guest editor of  Men’s Vogue. Avery’s in Vogue! That’s funny!

10. Avery went from New York to Texas, from Manhattan to Dallas, after dating Calvin Klein’s ex, Kitty Klein. He got into some trouble with the Stars. After the NHL suspended Avery, his team, the Dallas Stars, said they didn’t want him back. Avery undergoes anger management. Avery was in Vogue, and then he was out of vogue.

While he’s suspended from the NHL, word comes out that New Line Cinema is making a movie about Avery’s time at Vogue. It’s also announced that the movie based on Avery’s life will be a chick flick! You can't make up stuff like this!
