French Open 2012 Results: Maria Sharapova Will Finally Win Title in Paris
Maria Sharapova has looked strong thus far at Roland Garros and will finally win the French Open this month and complete her career Grand Slam.
Sharapova dominated Peng Shuai in the fourth round, and is set to face Klara Zakopalova in the quarterfinals.
Her clay court game has improved a lot since she burst onto the tennis scene as an 18-year-old at Wimbledon. She hasn't dropped a set in this year's tournament and is playing like the favorite to win the title.
Sharapova's toughest competition remaining in the tournament will be No. 1 seed Victoria Azarenka, who won the Australian Open back in January.
Azarenka is a talented player, but like the Russian star, hasn't enjoyed much success at Roland Garros.
Former world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki was knocked out of the tournament on Saturday, which is good news for Sharapova. One of the biggest wins for Sharapova was Serena Williams being knocked out in the first round. Williams has been a really challenging opponent for Sharapova throughout their careers.
Since her path to the final isn't very difficult, plus the fact she's playing great tennis right now, it's not hard to imagine her winning the French Open for the first time.
Her serve is very strong right now, she's not being fatigued by long matches and she is playing with enormous confidence at the moment.
If there were a year for Sharapova to win the French Open and complete her personal Grand Slam, it's 2012.
The Russian star will win the French Open and head into Wimbledon as the favorite in what should be a very successful summer for Sharapova.
