Rafael Nadal Won't Lose a Set to Juan Monaco at French Open

Jun 7, 2018

Rafael Nadal's march to his record seventh French Open title will continue against 13th-ranked Juan Monaco in the fourth round.

Nadal has been king of Roland Garros for the better part of a decade, winning the French in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011. While Nadal is one of the world's best players, he's virtually unstoppable on clay. Through the first three rounds of tournament play, he has showed his dominance.

Through three rounds, Nadal has yet to even lose a set. Is Juan Monaco the guy to put an end to that streak? Probably not.

Nadal has swept his way through the first three rounds without even coming close to being challenged. Other than a 6-4 set against Eduardo Schwank, Rafa has thoroughly dominated everyone he has been paired with.

Monaco will be by far the most difficult challenge for Nadal in the early goings of this tournament. Monaco comes into the fourth round after being challenged by both Guillaume Rufin and Milos Raonic—both of whom took Monaco into four sets.

Monaco's resume at the French Open doesn't help his case against Nadal either.

While Nadal can surpass Bjorn Borg for the most French Open titles of all time with a win this year, Monaco has only made it to the fourth round once in his career and holds a middling 7-8 record at Roland Garros. Monaco should be happy to have made it this far—his last two appearances at the French ended with first-round exits.

With Nadal on a mission to capture his seventh French Open title, Monaco will simply be a blip on his radar as he looks to sweep the Argentinian in straight sets.
