Things That Happen on Video Games That I Wish Happened in Real Life

John LombardFeb 6, 2009

I love sports.  I love playing them, watching them, and on a video game.  Games such as Madden, and NBA 2K  are fun to play with the guys.  Recently I’ve been playing Franchise mode on Madden and doing “The Association” on NBA 2k9 and have made some interesting trades, signings, etc.

For example, I was doing the fantasy draft on Madden and completely spaced on getting a quarterback.  When I looked the best available Quarterback was Brian Brohm, So I took him.  I had a team designed to have a quarterback with a bigger arm than Brohm and went to the trade menu hoping to upgrade.

I put Brian Brohm as well as a first and second round pick on my side.  I started flipping through the available quarterbacks and seeing what trades would be accepted.  The first quarterback I tried was Carson Palmer.  It was accepted but I didn’t take it just to see what other quarterbacks were available.

Next I thought I’d try Romo.  That worked.  I went from Romo to Eli, McNabb, and Big Ben.  All of these trades were accepted!  I finally thought well if I can get all these guys I might as well go after the best QB in football, Peyton Manning.

So I had Peyton Manning on a team that I used my first three picks on skill position players.  Peyton Manning had Larry Fitzgerald and Calvin Johnson to work with as receivers and a little running back by the name of Adrian Peterson to hand it off to.

That’s not even the worst of it.

I then noticed I could use an upgrade on my defensive line.  Brian Robison was the weak link on the line.  I traded him and a third and fourth round pick for Gaines Adams.  Little things like that make me wish that could just work in real life.

In the NBA franchise one of my buddies and I took the Washington Wizards and in four seasons built them up to compile a record of 75-7.  That is the reason for the picture of the article.  We had three players over a 95 overall rating, the MVP, rookie of the year, defensive player of the year, two first team all-NBA selections, one second-team All NBA selection (LeBron is first team), coach of the year, and executive of the year.

Maybe the other franchise we did when the Oklahoma City Thunder won 14 consecutive NBA championships by us simulating them.  We turned Andrew Bynum into the most dominant center in NBA history.  Six MVPs in a row during our span of championships and a career average of 14 rebounds per game support that statement.

One time I just wanted to see how dominant I could make Chris Paul and after the first three seasons he had three MVPs.  His numbers went something like this:  32 ppg, 11 apg, 5 rpg, 3 spg.  These are a few things that I wish could happen in real life that I see on video games all the time.

There is one thing that hppened on Madden to us that I never hope happens in reality.  We did a fantasy draft with like four guys and each picked a team.  After the first season was over the MVP of the league was current Titans back-up Quarterback Billy Volek.  Coming in third place in the voting was Redskins back-up Todd Collins.  I don’t understand how the game can let that happen.

Not much substance with this article, just kind of bored and thought I’d throw this together.
