SEC Football Top 150 Players: No. 89, Donte Rumph, Kentucky DT
The SEC Blog will be counting down the top 150 players in the SEC every day, concluding on Aug. 30, at the start of the college football regular season.
89. Donte Rumph, No. 99, Kentucky Defensive Tackle
2011 stats: 31 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack
Strengths
At 6'3", 308 pounds, Rumph is a monster on the interior of Kentucky's defensive line. He earned playing time as a freshman in 2010, and emerged as a force alongside fellow defensive tackle Mister Cobble as a sophomore. Kentucky runs a multiple defense, and it needs people in the middle of the line to take up double teams. Rumph has proven to be able to do that.
Weaknesses
Rumph goes unnoticed in the SEC largely because his defense as a whole has been woeful. The Wildcats finished 10th in the conference in total defense in 2011 allowing 377 yards per game. Team success will bring the individual spotlight with it.
2012 Prediction
Rumph isn't going to litter the stat sheet with numbers that jump off the page, but he's still a solid player. If there's a strength for Kentucky this year, it's on the defensive line where Rumph, Cobble, Collins Ukwu and part-time 4-3 starter Taylor Wyndham all return.
