All-Time Funniest Athletes

Ryan LesterFeb 6, 2009

I was asked to help select the funniest moments in sports and sports movies.  I’m going to take a different spin on this and pick out some of the funniest athletes.

I’m sure I’m leaving a bunch out, so feel free to add.  These are in no particular order.

Yogi Berra - The Yankee great was a classic.  He came up with some of baseball’s most memorable quotes.  Here’s an example:  “Baseball is 90 percent mental.  The other half is physical.”

Muhammad Ali - Another guy with the gift of gab.  Here’s one of Ali’s:  “Frazier is so ugly that he should donate his face to the U.S. Bureau of Wildlife.”

Rickey Henderson - Anyone that talks in the third person as much as Rickey is hilarious to me.  Here is one of Rickey’s keepers:  “This is Rickey calling on behalf of Rickey.  Rickey wants to play baseball.”

Charles Barkley - The guy simply doesn’t have an edit button.  His mouth occasionally gets him into trouble, but you have to love his honesty.

Shaq - The Big Aristotle almost always wears a great big smile and delivers some great lines.  You can just tell he is fun.  Went a little over the top with his question to Kobe, but he’s delivered enough over the years to forgive him.

Peyton Manning - Was surprisingly funny on SNL, plus he’s a big time practical joker.

Reggie Miller - If you have ever heard him on the Dan Patrick radio show, you’ll know what I’m talking about.  Reggie Miller is a funny cat.

Max Patkin - The Clown Prince of Baseball.  Enough said.

Bob Uecker - Although, I use the word “athlete” loosely with him.

Honorable Mention:
Mike Tyson
- If he wasn’t such a train wreck (and scary for that matter), he might crack the list.
