Memorial Tournament 2012: Crowded Leaderboard Makes This Weekend Must-See TV
The leaderboard at the 2012 Memorial Tournament is about as crowded as it gets, making this weekend's action must-see TV.
Midway through the second round, there are 30 golfers within six shots of leader Scott Stallings, who is almost finished with his round on this windy day and has been stuck at six-under all day long. With such a logjam at the top, this weekend's action is guaranteed to be exciting.
There are currently 11 golfers within three shots of Stallings, though many of them are untested under championship conditions such as the ones they will be facing this weekend. Out of the 11, only Tiger Woods, Adam Scott and Aaron Baddeley could be considered threats going into the weekend.
Tiger Woods is just getting going today. He got off to a hot start, nailing his approach shot to within a foot of the pin, and just like that, he's within three shots of Stallings.
Rory McIlroy has yet to tee off. He posted a round of 71 yesterday, and at one-under, is a huge threat to move up the ranks with a low score today.
With so many players bunched together at the top, there are bound to be some major shifts as we move through the weekend. The conditions aren't easy, as the wind is playing tricks on the players out on the course.
This should give guys like Woods and Scott a huge advantage over some of the others near the top of the leaderboard, as they are used to conquering tough conditions like this on a regular basis.
This weekend is sure to provide golf enthusiasts like me with an exciting treat. The cream will rise to the top, and I expect Woods to continue his strong play and perhaps win his second tournament of the year.
Stay tuned as this tournament continues to move towards a conclusion, and have a terrific weekend while you enjoy it.
