WWE News: Will Attitude Era Return in WWE '13 Video Game?

Leonardo SplinterMay 29, 2012

Last night on Monday Night RAW, the cover art for the upcoming video game, WWE '13, was revealed. The cover not only includes CM Punk, but also a mysterious WWE "Attitude" logo in the upper right-hand corner.

Since the release of the cover, countless WWE fans have wondered about the significance of the "Attitude" logo on the cover.

Does it signal a WWE future with more attitude? Probably not, but it definitely confirms reports that certain aspects of the Attitude Era would be featured in the game—such as wrestlers from the era.

Back in March, WrestleZone reported that former Attitude Era wrestlers, "Road Dogg" Jesse James and Billy Gunn (The New Age Outlaws) had done voice overs for the game. Although it was not known whether the former tag champions would be playable characters, it would make sense that they will be, considering the "Attitude" logo on the cover.

Regardless of whether The New Age Outlaws will be playable characters, other Attitude Era superstars such as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Mankind can be seen in screenshots and trailers

Other things that have been seen in screenshots are the old "Raw Is War" arena and The Undertaker's Attitude Era attire. While Undertaker's former attire has been seen in other games, it wasn't as significant as it probably is now.

Anything else?

In April, WWEGaming.com reported that the following Attitude Era stars (some of which have legends contracts with WWE) were brought up in a discussion at a "setup" at WrestleMania Axxess:

Big Boss Man, Ken Shamrock, Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, Steve Austin, The Rock, Mick Foley, The Godfather, Viscera, Mideon, Rikishi, Hardcore Holly, Steve Blackman, JBL, Ron Simmons and Dean Malenko.

Also, ZoKnowsGaming.com has reported that the following Attitude Era stars will all be part of the WWE '13 roster:

Animal, Hawk, Bret Hart, British Bulldog, Cactus Jack, Dude Love, Eddie Guerrero, Edge, Lita, Mike Tyson, Mr. McMahon, Shane McMahon, Shawn Michaels, Stephanie McMahon, Trish Stratus, Vader, X-Pac and "Attitude" versions of: Big Show, Chris Jericho, Christian, Kane, Mark Henry, The Rock, Triple H and The Undertaker.

What do you think? What is the significance of the "Attitude" logo on the cover of WWE '13? Will the wrestlers mentioned above be playable characters in the game? Is there any particular Attitude Era star, match (Inferno Match for instance) or feature you'd like to see in the game?

Update:

A press release has just been posted on WWE.com—which includes new information about the game. Regarding the role that the Attitude Era will play in the game, WWE wrote,

"

WWE '13 will introduce a groundbreaking, single-player campaign based on the highly influential Attitude Era.

THE ATTITUDE IS BACK – Return to an unparalleled and groundbreaking era in WWE history – a time of pure raucousness, grandiose personalities and colossal revolution – through a franchise-first single player campaign focused on eight purveyors of attitude during the famed television "Monday Night Wars," including WWE Hall of Famer "Stone Cold" Steve Austin

DISTINGUISHED ROSTER – Compete with a vast array of WWE Superstars and Attitude Era luminaries from the largest roster in franchise history, including cover Superstar CM Punk, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Sheamus, Undertaker, Mankind, Chris Jericho, Big Show and Mark Henry
