Word Life Vol. 8: Best Match Never Seen, HBK One-on-One, with "THE GREAT ONE"

AkDFeb 3, 2009

In between classes I had earlier, a friend of mine was questioning my wrestling knowledge just for fun. I easily answered his questions with the utmost ease. I gave him an Orton smirk and told him he can't see me as if I were John Cena himself.

Then he said, "What about HBK vs. The Rock? I was puzzled. Those two never came across my mind. If it were done when both men were in their prime, I believe it would have been better than Austin vs. The Rock.

Don't get me wrong. The Texas Rattlesnake is no doubt top five dead or alive in my book, but he's no showstopper. The Heartbreak Kid going one-on-one with the Great One could possibly be the greatest match of all time.

I might be getting ahead of myself, but a feud with those two would put it up with the all time greats. The greatest mic man, and the greatest actor, well, at least in the ring.

How would you picture that? They could still make it happen. HBK has found the fountain of youth, and The Rock is only 36.

They're both in good shape and can sell moves better than a used car salesman can sell automobiles. The rumor is that Vince McMahon tried to get The Rock for Wrestlemania 25, Apr. 5 in Houston, TX at Reliant Stadium.

With Rourke sitting out, WWE looks like they'll do anything now (see Flair on Raw next week). The Rock supposedly turned down the offer due to movie obligations. Vince then pitched the idea of including The Rock in Wrestlemania 26.

If its wrestling or Hall of Fame, I don't know, but what I do know is that HBK and The Rock haven't had an epic clash at the grandest stage of them all.

Many great wrestlers have never faced off, but this one is special. I believe it's one of the few matches that could surpass Rock and Austin's epic encounter.

You name it, HBK's done it, you say it, he's said it. Bret Hart, Triple H, Stone Cold, Razor Ramon, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Hulk Hogan, even John Cena have all had their meetings with the showstopper.

The Rock is missing. The Great One himself has had matches that blew roofs off. Stone Cold, Mick Foley, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and an epic encounter with Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 18.

It would be an instant classic, and no, I'm not talking about Christian Cage.

The Rock may have over exaggerated Stunners, but he sold them better than anyone. Imagine him selling a superkick? Imagine HBK getting Rock Bottomed. What about a People's Elbow or the Elbow drop?

Imagine they both do Kip-ups at the same time. The Rock removes his elbow pad, HBK tunes up the band. Rock does a spinebuster, HBK does a moonsault. Figure-four leg lock and the Sharpshooter. Mr. Wrestlemania vs. the most electrifying man in sports entertainment.

I'm practically drooling over a mere rumor and fantasy match. If HBK faces Taker this year, the Rock should be next year. Taker may be undefeated but HBK has the better opponents.

He could be the only wrestler to have fought Rock, Austin, and Taker at Wrestlemania. WWE needs to put this match out, but more importantly, obtain The Rock for next year's spectacular.

Shhhh and let the man speak..."FINALLY THE ROCK HAS COME BACK TO THE WWE! I've done it all, and whooped so many candy asses, I can open up a candy factory! But The Great One hasn't whooped one candy ass.... HBK, you need to go ONE-ON-ONE WITH THE GREAT ONE!"

I've said before WWE has all the cards, they just have to play the hand right...or least try to.
