Breaking News: Jameer Nelson Could Miss the Rest of Season

Brandon RibakFeb 3, 2009

According to ESPN, after an MRI exam on Tuesday, Jameer Nelson has revealed a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

Nelson will decide very shortly on whether or not he will opt to get surgery or begin rehabilitation on his shoulder. Regardless, it will take months until Nelson can get back onto the court.

The Magic will look to sign or trade for a point guard before the end of the trade deadline, which will hopefully keep the Magic in the race for the top spot in the East.

Fantasy Standpoint

Nelson's owners should stash him on the bench until the final decision is made on whether or not he chooses to get surgery on his right shoulder. This is a huge injury for fantasy owners and the Orlando Magic as Jameer was having a career All-Star season this year. His absence will certainly hurt any fantasy team.

Players to pick up

Anthony Johnson (PG, ORL)

Johnson could now take the starting spot in replace of Jameer if the Magic do not sign or trade for another point guard.

Mike Conley (PG, MEM)

Conley has improved his recent play as of late and is worth picking up if still available in all fantasy leagues.

Aaron Brooks (PG, HOU)

Brooks drop 22 points in 43 minutes of play Saturday in the absence of T-Mac. If he can continue to average consistent minutes with McGrady's status up in the air, he is worth picking up.
