France Euro 2012: Franck Ribery Injury Could Be Major Setback for Les Bleus

Frank WagnerJun 7, 2018

Coming off of Bayern Munich's heartbreaking Champions League final loss to Chelsea, it's hard to imagine the news getting any worse for any Bavarian.

However, one Munich player may have the bad news pile up on him soon.

In the first half of extra time Saturday night, Franck Ribery won what could have been the match-winning penalty from Didier Drogba.

However, the French midfielder limped off the field and was escorted by physicians back to the Munich bench, where he watched the horrific scenes that were the rest of the match from a Bayern point of view.

Now, Ribery may be in a race to be fit for his France side's Euro 2012 campaign.

Ribery's form has been, in a way, bipolar over the past few years. His play for Bayern Munich has been fantastic while his play for France has been much less than stellar.

This has even led French coach Laurent Blanc to contemplate what to do with the winger:

"

"It's incomprehensible. He's very good with his club and he can't do it for France. He has a mental block, that's for sure,'' Blanc said recently in an interview with Le Parisien newspaper. "Given how good he is, he deserves our patience. Up to a certain point. We're sticking with him, we believe in him, we're helping him a lot. But others also need (our help). It's not all about Franck.''

"

Given that Ribery is 29 years old, his history with France, and Blanc's comments, this could be a devastating blow to the winger's career.

More will follow when more information surfaces on the nature of Ribery's injury.
