Oregon Football: Ducks with New Uniforms on the Way? History Says Yes

Joe PenkalaMay 17, 2012

Even if you do not follow the Oregon Ducks football program, people around the nation know that Oregon is not afraid to shake things up and go in a different direction with their uniforms.

While most programs hold firm to their traditions, Oregon's tradition has become changing their uniform and pushing the envelope.

Over the past decade, Oregon fans have been treated to various new looks: diamond plating on the shoulders and then wings, a helmet color called grellow to liquid metal in the Rose Bowl and a simple green and yellow jerseys to options galore.

Back in 2005, the Ducks seemed to have things pretty simple, while still having a edge to their look. The lightning yellow was a color that truly popped and got everyone's attention.

Before the 2005 season was over, Oregon would debut a new look that would pave the way for the next three years. When the 2006 season began, the Ducks moved to a look that included the diamond plating on the shoulder pads and people around the nation were stunned.

Fast forward a few years, and the Ducks were wrapping up the 2008 season when during a night game against Arizona, the Ducks came flying out in a new look that included an all-black uniform and wings on the shoulder pads.

When the 2009 season kicked off, the winged uniforms would be their new look all the way through the end of the 2011 season.

During the course of these past few years, the Ducks haven't stopped at the jersey.

They have added a white helmet, a black helmet, a carbon fiber helmet, a liquid metal helmet and a throwback helmet.

The Ducks have also incorporated the color "volt" into some of their uniform combinations, giving the program an infinite amount of combinations.

When looking at the Ducks track record, it is easy to see that changes may be on the horizon, but Duck fans don't have to look too hard, as the Ducks may have given us all a sneak peak to their next look in the Rose Bowl and Spring Game.

In those two games, the Ducks made some small but noticeable changes that could pave the way to the next installment of their uniforms.

As we sit around and wait for the summer to come and go, Duck fans should start to get excited because when the calender moves towards August, we may be getting an early Christmas gift that fans will be wearing all season long.
