Mitchell Headed to 1st Conference Finals 🔥

This Week in the PGA

Thomas MorelandFeb 2, 2009

This week, Kenny Perry got his first win of the 2009 golf season at the FBR Open on the third playoff hole against Charlie Hoffman.

Hoffman missed a short putt in regulation at the 17th hole, which opened the door for Perry to get in a playoff.

Both players had chances at 18 in regulation to just par for the win, but played the hole poorly, setting up the playoff.

Perry won three times last season, and started off his 2009 season early this year with a big win.

My fantasy team did not fair well this week. Anthony Kim and Phil Mickelson, my A players, missed the cut.  Two of my B players, JB Holmes and Steve Stricker, also missed the cut.

That left me with Frederich Jacobson, Rory Sabbatini, Dean Wilson, and Kevin Streelman.

Sabbatini did the best out of those four, but my point total was low compared to the last couple of weeks.

I am now at position No. 45,990 in Yahoo fantasy golf.

All the experts have passed me once again.

The leader in this league  is Snake Attack, with 798 points, followed by West Shore Yankees with 790. I have 527 points.

This week, the tour tackles the Buick Open in Southern California, at the beautiful Torrey Pines layout near San Diego.

My team will have Camilo Villegas, Rod Pampling, Davis Love III, and Charles Howell III.

On the bench will be Ben Curtis, Bo Van Pelt, Steve Marino, and Rocco Mediate.

I hope this week's lineup fares a little better than week.

Tiger Woods won this event last year, as well as the US Open, on this course also.

Tiger is almost ready to come out and play, perhaps in the Accenture Match Play event, or maybe a tournament before the Masters sometime.

I expect he will play well, only because he misses the competition and is very motivated to tune up for the Masters in April.

Look for Tiger to make his presence known on a leader board soon after he appears on tour.

It's still a little nippy in South Florida and when it warms up a bit, I will have a golf adventure of my own to report.

I need a tune up lesson with my driver. I know the guy will try to sell me something. Lol.

At least I can putt well. Have a nice week.
