Methods Behind the Madness: Summing Up Clay Guida and Lyoto Machida

UFC 94 had two of my favorite fighters. Clay Guida and Lyoto Machida. The two fighters at times can catch some slack. Some say they are boring, uninteresting,dull etc.

I think they are fascinating and others, too. Let's start with the man who should be the number one contender Layoto Machida. The man is 14-0 6 straight wins in UFC. He has notable wins over Bonnar, Franklin, B.J. Penn, Sokoju, Ortiz, and Silva.

People say he doesn't finish fights, but he has finished six of his 14 fights, including. Bonnar, Franklin, Sokoju, and Silva. so he does finish fights. Two of his last three infact he has finished. and the one he did not he Destroyed! Ortiz in. He throws people around like toys.

He comes in with weird angels. Machida never throws a punch with out knowing it will hit. He doesn't get hit. He is 30 but probably sustained the same amount of damage of a 22 year old.

Sorry to the fans who think this is 1993. The sport has evolved. That's why the Tank Abbots and valintines don't exists any more. That is why guys like Kimbo Slice won't ever go any where. People like Machida are the evolution of the sport. Highly disciplined, intelligent, skilled fighter.

I'm sorry sports fans, but untill fighters evolve they will have to suffer embarrassing losses to people like Machida. I fear to see what will happen to people like Jackson and Wandi who all they do is look for the knock out. Granted, it is fun, but men like that will get embarrassed I am afraid.

On that note, how much longer can Dana dog Machida? I normally agree with Dana White. But lets get real here people. Yes i know Dana is feeding Jardine to Jackson to set up Evans-Jackson. By the way, Jardine is more then a handfull for Jackson, so Dana better watch out. His plan may back fire horribly.

You can't duck this man forever, Dana. This man will become champion some day. And soon enough machida will be up there being in the same conversations as Gsp.A Silva and Fedor.

Now moving on to the cardio machine the Juggernaut the pit bull the cave man the Wield man. Clay "the carpenter" Guida. the man has a vetran record of 25-6. Now people say he doesent finish fights. Oh, to the contrary. He has indeed finished 17 of his fights. Twelve by submission, so only eight fights in total have gone to the judges.

Guida has won three straight and four of his last five. Three of those fights have gone the way of decision. Marcus Arilio, mac Danzig and Nate Diaz. Marcus has lost to others in the ufc besides Guida. None, however have finished him either. So you can't just blame Guida.

Then came Sammy Sciavo. Guida destroyed him and TKO'd him in the first. now we move on to the two fights guida gets the most slack for Mac danzig. A TUF winner who has only been finished ONCE in 24 fights. So why should Guida catch slack for it?

Guida went in there and did not want to get caught in the guard of some one who has 10 submission wins out of 18 and finished his other two UFC wins by submission. he fought a smart fight and was able to beat danzig in the ufc.

so if guida is boaring then so are the other people who couldent finish him.

Now Nate Diaz. Another man who has only been finished ONCE and before Guida only defeated twice. In the UFC, no one was able to beat him. But yet Guida being the boring fighter he is managed to do it.

Now, I fight in MMA at a amature level. I am 5'7" and weigh around the same as guida. I know how Guida must of felt facing a man a half a FOOT taller then him. He also had an eight-inch reach advantage.

Guida's main disaplin is wrestling. so how is a wrestler spouse to out strike a skilled striker with that kind of height and reach advantage? Now add that to Diaz's great sub game. who i might add has won seven out of his 10 wins by submission. Plus his long lanky frame. That can cause HUGE problems for any one. which it has for all he has faced in the ufc. Besides guida that is.

How are you suppose to beat a man with better striking reach height and ground game? Well, Guida outmuscled him hung on to him, didn't get careless. He avoided his dangerous guard and took him to the ground and made Diaz Useless.

Guida is a cardio machine. and no one yet has seemed to have a answer to it. Guida could of slugged it out in vain and lost to diaz BUT NO Guida like a true Warrior found a way to win.

Guida did not fall in to others game plan. so if guida is boring then so are all the other people who couldn't even BEAT him in the UFC let alone finish him. I assume most don't mind because it is always like a rocky movie when he fights. As the fans chant "GUIDA GUIDA GUIDA!" Guida is only another win or two at the most away from a title shot. like it or not.

Next, Guida shouldn't be facing men with such great sub games, so expect another great fight from Guida and a finish.
