Manchester City vs. QPR: City Scores 2 Goals in Stoppage Time To Win EPL Title

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Manchester City avoided a historic meltdown by scoring two stoppage time goals to win their first Premier League title since 1968 in one of the most amazing finishes in the history of sports.

In just a matter of minutes, the blue half of Manchester went from heartbreak to the most amazing amount of joy possible.

After falling behind 2-1 in the second half, substitute Edin Zdeko scored the equalizer and Sergio Aguero found the winner in the final minutes to give City a 3-2 victory.

If not for their late-match heroics, City would have relinquished the title to arch rivals Manchester United, who won 1-0 at Sunderland.

Both Manchester clubs finished tied atop the league table with 89 points, but City had the tiebreaker on goal difference.

The match was full of thrilling excitement from start to finish. QPR captain Joey Barton was given a red card in the 55th minute for elbowing City forward Carlos Tevez in the chin. Barton then kicked City forward Sergio Aguero before finally leaving the pitch.

Down to 10 men, City had so many chances to find the two goals they needed to win the title, and they finally found them at the last possible moments.

Give QPR credit for playing a fantastic match under enormous pressure. They were facing relegation if they lost and Bolton won.

Stoke drew with Bolton 2-2 after scoring a late equalizer to ensure that QPR would remain in the Premier League for another season after just being promoted this year. Bolton will join Blackburn and Wolves as the three teams who will be relegated.

Sunday's match was a perfect example of why sports provide the best theater. The action is unscripted and literally anything can happen.

It was the perfect way to end what many believe has been the greatest Premier League season ever.
