Tomas Berdych vs. Juan Martin Del Potro: Predictions for Epic Semifinal Matchup
Tomas Berdych and Juan Martin Del Potro will play one semifinal at the 2012 Madrid Open and it will be one of the most exciting matches of this tournament.
Both players are young stars who will continue to be challengers to men's tennis' "big four" for many years to come.
Let's look at three predictions for this match.
Berdych Will Dominate Serve
Tomas Berdych will have a very good service game against Del Potro which will be key to the match since the Argentine star is one of the more athletic players on tour.
Berdych will be accurate in his serves and force Del Potro to be on the defensive more than he would like.
If Berdych can earn several aces and not allow Potro to break him, then he should have a comfortable time winning this match.
Berdych Will Win in Straight Sets
One thing about Berdych is he rarely beats himself. His unforced errors are usually very low and he doesn't put himself in bad positions.
He has one victory on tour this season and has been a steady performer throughout 2012. I expect him to win this match in straight sets over Del Potro because of his service game and play at the net.
It will be a competitive match for sure, but I think Berdych's all-around game is a bit better than Del Potro's.
The Winner Will Lose to Roger Federer in the Final
Regardless of who the winner is, they will lose in the final of the Madrid Open to Roger Federer.
The Swiss star will square off against Janko Tipsarevic, who stunningly upset Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. It's hard to imagine Tipsarevic pulling off another fantastic upset in back-to-back matches.
Federer has played really well this season and is too talented for Berdych or Del Potro in the final in Madrid.
