Kentucky Derby 2012: Pre-Derby Events Cancelled Due to Thunderstorms
May 5, 2012
Folks began pouring into Louisville last night, and so did the rain, which has put a damper on the 2012 Kentucky Derby.
According to Huffington Post Sports, some events for the 138th edition of the Kentucky Derby have been cancelled because of poor weather.

Do not fret, though, the "Run for the Roses" has not been cancelled.
Still, this is certainly tragic news, as the Derby is more than just one big race. It's a full-day event that has now been ruined by the thunderstorms that wreaked havoc on the track.
The gates opened up at 8 a.m. Saturday, but track superintendent Butch Lehr made the decision to cancel some events before the masses showed up.
There's no doubt this had to be a tough call for Lehr, especially since it was announced a month ago on the Churchill Downs website that he would be retiring at the end of the year.
Lehr, along with the rest of the country, was hoping for superb weather conditions for race day, but mother nature had different plans.
According to Weather.com, it's supposed to be a high of 83 with a 50 percent chance of rain around 6 p.m. ET, which is when the big race is set to begin.
