Husker recruit Shawn Bodtmann, a linebacker out of Pennsylvania, most likely will not be joining the team. California LB Eric Martin is in contention for a recruiting slot at Nebraska.

Walk-on Ty Kildow just visited Lincoln.

2010 recruiting is in full swing as DT prospect Beau Allen will visit Lincoln:

“As for Nebraska, to be honest, I’m kind of going down there to check everything out,” Allen said. “I figure I should check out as many schools as I can. They’re a storied program and coach (Bo) Pelini is doing a good job. I haven’t seen their facilities, but like I said a junior day is a good way to check out a program. It’s going to be my first glimpse of them and I’m excited for that.”

Top JuCo DE prospect Jason Pierre-Paul is expected to announce his decision today. Nebraska and South Florida are said to be the front-runners.

Lincoln Christian’s Devin Paulson will walk-on at Nebraska:

He was also hearing from Iowa State, Northwest Missouri State, UNO, and South Dakota State.

“It just didn’t seem right go anywhere else but Nebraska,” Paulsen said.

Paulsen will be looked on to add to NU’s growing depth at linebacker and to contribute on special teams.

“I’m more of a linebacker-type player. We ran a 4-4, and I was one of our inside linebackers and I also played quarterback. Last season. I had 120 tackles or so, and I think two interceptions.”

Expect the Huskers to take 15 walk-ons in 2009.

Earlier in the season defensive coordinator Carl Pelini also hinted that NU was going to have to cut their walk-on numbers down to a more manageable number. Pelini said a big reason mainly has to do with locker room space.

“Shoot, you’d love to take 30 every year, but after three or four years you’d have a small army out there and you wouldn’t even be able to have enough lockers for them,” Carl Pelini said on Dec. 12.
