NBA Trade Talk: Who Mill make the First Move?

Brandon RibakJan 29, 2009

With the February 14 trade deadline quickly approaching, many teams have had rumors of trade possibilities, but for some reason nobody has pulled the trigger on a blockbuster deal yet. (One big reason teams are holding back are due to injured players).

Who will make the first move to land a big trade and get the motor running for more deals to get accepted?

The Miami Heat and Shawn Marion

Shawn Marion is currently averaging 12 PPG, 9 RPG, and 1.0 BPG in 36 games this season. (Worst averages since his rookie season). Rumors have circulated around the league for months about Shawn Marion being dealt out of Miami to teams like the

Toronto Raptors- Jermaine O’Neal and Jamario Moon for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks. (O’Neal’s health has been a big concern).

New York Knicks- Eddy Curry for Shawn Marion (Curry has only played in one game this season).

Sacramento Kings- Brad Miller and Kenny Thomas for Shawn Marion.

Dallas Mavericks- Josh Howard for Shawn Marion.

Marion has now missed four of his last five games due to a groin injury and could be sitting out just to get 100% healthy before a deal is made.

The New York Knicks and Stephon Marbury

Marbury could be perhaps the most talked about when dealing with trade rumors this season. He has yet to play a game this year and could possibly get traded to teams like the

Boston Celtics- Stephon Marbury has supposedly made a verbal agreement with the Celtics that he will sign with them once the Knicks buy out his contract.

The Olympiakos- Greece has shown interest in Marbury this season (Former NBA players Josh Childress and Jannero Pargo signed with the Olympiakos).

Miami Heat- Marbury has expressed interest in joining the Miami Heat as well.

Unfortunately Marbury is staying put until the Knicks decide to buy out his contract. It does not seem very likely that they will do so this season and this will just lead to more problems for the New York Knicks in the future.

The Toronto Raptors and Jermaine O’Neal

Jermaine has been on the trading block for the most part of the NBA season thus far. Due to various knee and shoulder injuries, the Raptors have not been able to land a deal involving O’Neal. A select few of teams have expressed interest in Jermaine this season such as the

Miami Heat- Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks for Jermaine O’Neal and Jamario Moon.

New York Knicks- David Lee for Jermaine O’Neal.

Dallas Mavericks- Josh Howard for Jermaine O’Neal.

Jermaine’s value has decreased drastically because of his constant injuries this season, but he should be dealt away by the end of the trade deadline.

The Sacramento Kings and Brad Miller

32-year-old Brad Miller is owed a little over $11 million this season and almost $12.5 million next season. He is a great center that could help a lot of teams make a run for the playoffs. Miller’s trade rumors are to the

Chicago Bulls- Larry Hughes and another player to be named for Brad Miller (Doubtful trade rumor).

Miami Heat- Shawn Marion and another player to be named for Brad Miller.

Cleveland Cavaliers- Wally Szczerbiak for Brad Miller (dot a good deal for the Kings).

Who do you think will land a deal first? Comment back with your response.
