What Makes This Yankee Team Different from All the Others...?
Kevin RozellJan 29, 2009
This year's Yankee team is different from the others in the past few years. You might be asking yourself..why? Well letโs go down the list.
Here we goโฆ.
- Finally have a top-of-the-line rotation. The Yankees havenโt had that defining No. 1 ace for a while now, and they finally have that in CC. A rotation of Sabathia, Wang, Burnett, Chamberlain, & Pettitte can be considered the best rotation in baseball.
- Have more depth in the rotation. With the addition of Andy Pettitte, the team now has players waiting in the wings in the minor leagues (Hughes, Aceves, Kennedy). Last year...These same players were already slotted into the rotation, and you just canโt expect to win with a bunch of rookies.
- Joe Girardi now has a year under his belt as a manager in NY. He understandsย the pressuresย and he knows whatย he needs to do this year. The main goal is the World Series, and thatโs why he wears No. 27 on his back. If he doesnโt make the playoffs with this team..you can bet on him being fired.
- Mark Teixeira is the new first basemen. This guy was the No. 1 player out on the market and the Yankees landed him. He provides a gold glove at first base, which Giambi couldnโt provide. Not only that, but he is a lock for 30HR+ and 100RBI+.
- This teamย doesnโt haveย a bunch of bums and players who have attitude problems. The Yankees have had their share of those guys. (Carl Pavano, Jaret Wright, Kevin Brown, Randy Johnson, Gary Sheffield, Javier Vazquez,ย Sidney Ponson) Cashman finally brought in the right players this year. These guys are at the top of their game, and all of them seem to have great personalities.
- This team wonโt have as many injuries as last year. I know thatโs not a guarantee, but how is that even possible? Haha. (Alex Rodriguez, Johnny Damon, Phil Hughes, Hideki Matsui, Jorge Posada, Brian Bruney, Wilson Betemit, Andy Pettitte, Humberto Sanchez, Ian Kennedy, Jeff Karstens, Jonathan Albaladejo, Chien-Ming Wang, Chris Britton, Carl Pavano, Dan Giese, Joba Chamberlain) 17 players on the DL! You can pretty much bet on less people landing on the DL this year. I might just quit this blog if it happens. (I kid..I kid)
This team has everything it needs to win the World Series this season. This is the year!
