Hal Steinbrenner Talks on WFAN with Mike Francesa
Hal Steinbrenner was on WFAN yesterday. The first thing Francesa asked him was...guess? Joe Torreโs book: The Yankee Years.ย Hal didnโt read the book yet, so he didnโt have much to say.
When Mike asked him, Hal responded:
"Asked for his reaction, Steinbrenner said: โI donโt really have any, Mike, because, as you said, I havenโt seen it. I donโt even know anybody thatโs seen it. Iโm amazed you got a copy, quite frankly.
"
But Iโve been around long enough. On occasion, the mediaโs been known to overdramatize certain things, and we may find thatโs the case here. But I just have no way of knowing.โ
Hal also spoke about Spring Training, the new Yankee Stadium, how the team is running, and the concessions company Legends Hospitality.
Here are some quotes courtesy of Peter Abraham:
on The Bossโฆย โHeโs looking forward to spring training.โ
on the organizationโฆย โIโm the control person but this is a family business,โ he said.
on last season and the upcoming seasonโฆย He said last year was โtremendously disappointing.โ Based on the additions, he expects a better team in 2009. Steinbrenner just said he thought Joe Girardi did a โgreat jobโ but adjustments had to be made.
can the Yankees duplicate their run of the '90sโฆย โI would expect nothing less,โ he said.
if he will be a hands-on ownerโฆย ย โRight or wrong, Iโm a little less like that than my dad was,โ he said.
on selling the teamโฆย ย โWe have no intention of selling,โ he said.
