Browsing the NFL Mock Drafts | Senior Bowl Shakes'Em Up!

Lee JohnsonJan 29, 2009

With the Senior Bowl in the books, the next stop is the NFL Combine. NFL Mock Drafts have been adjusted to reflect the winners and losers of the Senior Bowl and new names are popping into the Top 10. It’s time again to scan through our NFL Mock Draft Database and look for some NFL Draft Jabber...

The new in thing to do appears to be to make the first overall pick an Offensive Tackle.  If you look over the mocks in the database you will see that there are three names at the Offensive Tackle position that appear to be interchangeable.

Someone may break away from the pack but none of them have made any separation at this time. A very good point is made at Walter Football regarding the lack of a true outright OT, and the fresh start leading to Matt Stafford being the top pick for the Detroit Lions.

It appears that the first time we will see if a team will ignore a MAJOR need and go another direction is with the Rams pick at No. 2. Michael Crabtree, WR-Texas Tech, is popping up in this spot in some places (Sports2Debate).

Certainly, the Rams can use him, as most teams could make a case for it, their WR’s are getting older. Seriously though, the Rams need to jump on whichever OT establishes himself as the No. 1 at the position or the Rams will look a lot like the Lions for another year.

You can have all the WR’s you want but if it seems like you are playing three guys on the O-Line it isn’t going to help.

The NFL Draft Dog has made the call on Knowshon Moreno being the first RB taken and he goes to the Cleveland Browns. Most mocks have Aaron Curry going here.  Moreno could be the last piece to a young set of skill position players added for the Browns in the last few years.

B.J. Raji made waves Senior Bowl week at Defensive Tackle.  The highest we have noticed him going so far was at No. 8 to the Jaguars at Sunday Kickoff. With a few teams moving to a 3-4 Raji has been brought up in conversation as the best guy to be plugged in at NT.

One of the teams he has been mentioned with is the Green Bay Packers. Looking at the page, it’s noticed that Malcolm Jenkins is listed for the Packers here, too. With all the mock drafts out there the Jenkins to Packers pick appears to be one of the most agreed upon at this point.

Rob Rang at CBS Sports has put his mock out this week. First interesting thing to jump off the page is Everrett Brown, DE-Florida State, going No. 3 to the Chiefs. He points out Brown’s Senior Bowl performance and Scott Pioli’s drafting of Defensive Line in New England as reasons.

This mock draft has players landing in places that I have yet to see this season in mock drafts.

Don Banks at CNN/SI has the Saints taking USC OLB, Brian Cushing at No. 14. The popular choice for the Saints here has been CB and even MLB assuming that Jonathan Vilma is not retained.

OLB is a glaring need as well for the Saints and I have to say I’m surprised there has not been more of this pick out there. Makes sense...although just about anything on defense does.
